Elimination Chamber results & WrestleMania implications

Elimination Chamber was last night and despite the rather thin card (5 matches), the PPV delivered. Elimination Chamber has turned into one of the more unpredictable shows of the year and it has helped inform some of what we can expect at WrestleMania 26.

WWE Championship match - Sheamus (c) vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Randy Orton vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Triple H vs. John Cena

Winner: John Cena (new WWE champion)

WM implications: DiBiase clocked Orton with a pipe so it looks like some sort of Orton vs. Legacy build up for WM. Sheamus was eliminated by Triple H so maybe they have a date at WM given that Triple H's dance card hasn't been filled. With Cena winning the WWE Title in the Chamber, it sets up a main event match against Batista. Or does it....?

Impromptu WWE Championship match - John Cena (c) vs. Batista

Winner: Batista (new WWE champion)

WM implications: Not two seconds after Cena wins the title does Mr. McMahon declare that Cena will have to defend the title against a fresh and angry Batista. The Animal makes short work of an exhausted Cena and claims the WWE Championship! So now it looks like we'll have Cena challenging Batista for the WWE Championship at WM! Obviously, they'll throw in McMahon and Bret Hart. That's what I call a main event.

World Heavyweight Championship match - Undertaker (c) vs. CM Punk vs. R-Truth vs. John Morrison vs. Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio

Winner: Chris Jericho (new World champion)

WM implications: This Elimination Chamber was paced better with CM Punk looking strong. The last two were Undertaker and Jericho and they fought back and forth. UNTIL...Shawn Michaels climbs in from under the ring and delivers a little Sweet Chin Music to the Undertaker! Jericho, in disbelief, jumps on the opportunity and covers the Deadman for the 1-2-3 and becomes World Champion. Now he'll go on to face Edge at WM26 and HBK gets his rematch against the Undertaker.

WrestleMania 26 projected matches:

WWE Championship: Batista (c) w/Mr. McMahon vs. John Cena w/Bret "Hitman" Hart

World Championship: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Edge

Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

Triple H vs. Sheamus

Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase

Unified Tag Team Championship
The Miz and Big Show (c) vs. MVP and Mark Henry

Notables without current feuds: CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, John Morrison, Drew McIntyre, Kane, Christian

The Road to WrestleMania

As we move closer and closer to WrestleMania 26 in Phoenix, AZ, I'll make some comments about the week in wrestling and how the WM26 seems to be shaping up.

But first, a look at the next WWE pay-per-view - Elimination Chamber:

WWE Championship: Sheamus (c) vs. Triple H vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Ted Dibiase vs. Kofi Kingston

Sheamus has been WWE Champion for a couple months now and he still has no credibility as champion. WWE higher-ups would be wise to take the title off him and put it on Triple H, Orton, or Cena. If Sheamus somehow ends up winning the Elimination Chamber and headlining WrestleMania, there will be a lot of unhappy people, both in the stands and in the locker room.

World Heavyweight Championship: Undertaker (c) vs. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho vs. John Morrison vs. Rey Mysterio vs. R-Truth

Given how crazy HBK has been acting, I expect him to cost the Undertaker the World title at Elimination Chamber. My guess is that he'll drop it to Jericho who will go on to defend the title against Edge at WM26.

WrestleMania 26 matches seem to be shaping up as such:

WWE Championship: Unknown - possible champions could be: Triple H, Cena, Orton. Sheamus as WWE Champ is a long shot but apparently, he has a friendship with Triple H that may lead to a main event showdown at WM26. But that would be super lame. I'm hoping for a Cena win and a Batista/CM Punk challenge. Otherwise, any combination of Triple H, Cena, and Orton we would have seen before.

World Heavyweight Championship: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Edge. They seem to be building towards this all Canadian main event so let's make it so. Jericho is one of the best heels in the company so they may as well let him run with it.

Bret "Hitman" Hart vs. Vince McMahon
or
Bret "Hitman" Hart & John Cena vs. Vince McMahon & Batista

After 13 years, Bret Hart returns to WrestleMania. Hopefully Vince will take the beating he earned in Montreal.

Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

Not sure how they'll ultimately set this up, but this looks like a lock for the card.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Participants currently unknown but will probably include Kofi Kingston, Christian, and Shelton Benjamin. Any number of the guys listed below can also be included in this match.

Other notables who have no current storyline leading into an obvious WM match: Mark Henry, Miz, Morrison, Rey Mysterio, MVP, Kane, Jack Swagger, Evan Bourne, Kane, Big Show, Matt Hardy, Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase.
